Skype calls in a browser

How to make Skype calls in a browser here are the steps

A new plug-in from Microsoft lets you make Skype video and voice calls worldwide. Here's how to set it up in just a few steps.

Skype voice and video calls in HD are now available worldwide thanks to a new plug-in by Microsoft. The free plug-in supports modern versions of Chrome and Firefox on both Mac and Windows computers, as well as Internet Explorer 8 and higher.

To make calls with Skype on the Web, visit Outlook.com and sign up for a free account if you don't already have one. Once you've done that, sign in.

Click the messaging icon on the top right corner and the messaging pane will appear on the right side. Under the "Add people to chat with" section, click Skype Contacts.

A new window will pop up asking you to install the Skype plug-in to set up calling from Outlook.com.
Click Get Started. You'll have to agree to Skype's terms of use and then the download will start. After the download completes, simply install the plug-in by locating the file on your computer and double-clicking. You'll be guided through the installation.

After the plug-in is installed, you'll be asked if you'd like to merge your Skype and Microsoft accounts so you can see your Skype contacts in Outlook.com. To merge, simply sign in using your Skype credentials and click Continue. If you didn't already have a Skype account, here's where you can get one.

To make a call, select a friend in the messaging pane. The first time you run Skype in a browser, your browser may ask you to give Skype permission to run. Select "Always run on this site" if you want to be able to use Skype regularly in the browser.

The Skype call will appear in a pop-up window. Now you can chat away with your friends without leaving the browser.

Run both Chrome OS and Ubuntu on a Chromebook

The first thing you must do is enable the Chromebook's Developer Mode, but be aware that this will erase anything you may have saved to the device's internal storage. Press and hold the Esc and Refresh keys, and then press the power button. The Chromebook will reboot into Recovery Mode.

yellow exclamation point will appear on the screen with a warning message, press the Ctrl and D keys simultaneously to continue to the next screen. Press the keyboard's Enter key to turn OS verification off and confirm the decision to turn on the Chromebook's Developer Mode. A red exclamation point and a warning that OS verification has been turned off will be displayed on the screen, followed by two loud beeps, this is normal.

Sit back and wait as this process could take up to 10 minutes to complete. Don't panic if you see a red exclamation point after Developer Mode has been enabled, the system will reboot back into Chrome OS shortly.

will be required to input your network credentials and login information after the Chromebooks reboots. After doing so, you must download a tool known as Crouton, which will allow Ubuntu to run on top of Chrome OS. Save the file to your download folder and then open the Chromebook's terminal by pressing the Ctrl, ALT, and T keys together.

Type "shell" in the command line and hit the Enter key. Next, type "sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t unity" and wait for Crouton to install. If your Chromebook has a touch screen use the command "sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t touch, unity" instead.

You will be asked to enter a username and password once the installation process is complete. This is separate from your Chrome OS login and will be used inside of the Ubuntu operating system. To enter Ubuntu type the command "sudo startunity" into the terminal.

Click on the first icon on the left-hand side of the screen and search for the terminal. Once inside of it, type "sudo apt-get update" in the command line to update the operating system. When that's complete, type "sudo apt-get install software-center," this will allow you to easily install a wide variety of Linux programs. You can open the software center and search for the specific program you want, or you can download programs from the Web and install them through the software center.

Best practices for creating a home inventory

Description

If you are looking for a best way to create a home inventory then here we are to help you out.

Solution:

Be thorough

There are many things that you use thus, it is important to make your inventory as detailed as possible. It is a time consuming task to prepare the list of items that you own but after completing the initial list you can easily update it later. Always create an inventory with a method that can endure any natural disasters, fires or burglaries. The most optimum method is create a digital version of your inventory and store it in cloud.

Go digital

There is another way to make an inventory. In this, lay out your valuable possessions on the floor in each room and take a video. When you record, give name to each item. Store the video file in a cloud service such as Dropbox. Another service is called Digital Locker in which you need to take photos of your belongings and upload them directly to the service using an iPhone and Android app. You can upload three photos per item as well as fill the necessary information. Through these videos, you can easily prove that you owned that item.

Some important things to consider:

1. Once a year, update your list, video or pictures.

2. When updating the list or video, indicate those items that you no longer have as well as enter new items.

3. Without any inventory app, you can create a smartphone video.

Furthermore, if you have any other question regarding the inventories then you can contact your personal agent.

Share files between iPhone and Mac with DeskConnect | Tevhvedic

Description

DeskConnect is the new free app for iOS devices that can let you share files between iPhone and Mac. Let’s discuss about it.

Solution:
For using this app, you need it both on your iPhone and Mac. Further, you have to sign up for an account using an email address.
Talking about Mac, you can find DeskConnect in the menu bar. If you have logged into the iOS app then the drop-down menu contains iPhone in the list. You can also see the page you are browsing as well as send that page to the iOS app. This app do not transfer files from one device to another but upload files to DeskConnect servers. Then these files get stored there for 30 days. This server is located in the U.S. and your files are stored in an encrypted form.
From the preferences for the Mac app, you can check the box so as to show your Mac’s clipboard work as an option in the app to send to your iPhone. Also, you can drag a file to the DeskConnect icon in your menu bar and wait for the drop-down menu to appear. After this, choose iPhone from the list and drop it there to share the file. With some apps, you can get the option to share whatever file or page you have open.

Coming to iPhone side, you can find shared files in the grid. Just tap on a file to open it and a long tap to get the menu with Open, Copy and Delete buttons. Above this grid, you can find four buttons to send a photo, URL, document or the contents of your iPhone’s clipboard. To send URL, you have to create a bookmark.
On the Mac, DeskConnect fit itself into OS X Contacts app. By clicking on the number, you can get the option "Call via DeskConnect." Moreover, you can send directions to your iPhone. Mapping directions on your Mac can be shared with the directions to your iPhone. In the Settings of the iOS app, select to open directions in the iOS maps app or Google Maps.
Therefore, it is better to use DeskConnect to move files from one place to another. For more from the XpertCrewTM team, please follow us on Twitter @Techvedic or contact Techvedic’s computer support helpdesk, as per below contact-details:
