Use the Xbox One and Kinect sensor as a universal remote

Description

Xbox One is unique due to its voice commands. For the TV integration and voice commands features, you need Kinect sensor. With this, you can navigate the console’s user interface, open games and apps as well as control your TV using your voice only. Isn’t it great?

Solution:

Here are some easy steps to set up the Xbox One as a universal remote control:

1. On the back of the Xbox One, plug your cable or satellite box into the HDMI-in port and connect HDTV to the HDMI-out port. In case, you have an audio receiver then connect it to the HDMI-out port on the system and plug the TV into the back of the receiver.

2. Power on the Xbox One and then go to “Settings.”

3. Go to “TV & One Guide” and select “OneGuide" option.

4. Now, click on TV Lineup, enter your zip code and choose your cable or satellite provider from the drop-down menu.

5. Select “Devices” by going back to the TV & OneGuide settings. From the pull-down menu, select "I don't see my brand" and enter your brand manually.

6. Select “Next” after choosing your brand, choose “Automatic setup” and click “Send Command.” If the system can mute your TV then you are ready to go. Otherwise, try other automatic commands or select manual setup option.

7. Now, enter the manufacturer of your cable or satellite box as well as audio receiver model.

8. Finally, go back to TV & One Guide settings, choose Power settings and select the devices that should be turned off when the Xbox One is powered on. You can configure the console to turn off your TV, cable box or audio receiver using the command “Xbox turn off.” Also, you can power on all the devices with “Xbox on” command.
