How to Add or Remove “Power Options” Button from Start Screen in Windows 8.1?

Microsoft has added the much awaited Power button on Start Screen. Now users can quickly and easily access power options such as shutdown, restart, hibernate, sleep, etc right from the Start Screen.

Now there might be people who want to remove this new Power button from Start Screen in their Windows 8.1 PCs or who want to add the new Power button in their Windows 8.1 tablets.

Here is a small Registry tweak which lets you enable/disable Power button on Windows 8.1 Start Screen.

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box or Start Screen search box and press Enter. It'll open RegistryEditor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

3. Create a new key Launcher under ImmersiveShell key so the final key path would be:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Launcher

4. Now in right-side pane, create a new DWORD

Launcher_ShowPowerButtonOnStartScreenand keep its value as 0

That's it. Log off or restart Windows Explorer as mentioned here and Power button will no longer present on Start Screen.

5. Similarly if you want to show or add Power button on Windows 8.1 touch-enabled devices such as Surface, etc, simply change the value of Launcher_ShowPowerButtonOnStartScreen to 1and the Power button will get added on Start Screen upon next login.

Xbox One :- energy-saving mode

The Xbox One's instant-on mode, whereas convenient, uses thirty times a lot of power than energy-saving mode.

Powering on the Xbox One by voice command could be a pretty cool feature, although you may feel a bit silly doing therefore initially. Responding to the "Xbox on" command is one in all the options of instant-on power mode. Instant-on power mode starts up the Xbox One in mere two seconds and conjointly lets automatic updates occur. For those that oftentimes play games, watch videos via Netflix and Amazon, or have live idiot box up, instant-on can in all probability be the well-liked power mode. For all others, the energy-saving mode could also be the higher selection.

The Xbox One's energy-saving mode requires you to press the Xbox button to power on the console and can take up to 45 seconds to start up. It also won't allow updates to download and install automatically. So why would you use energy-saving mode? It uses 30 times less energy than instant-on mode. Instant-on mode uses 15W of power, while energy-saving mode sips just 0.5W of power.

To enable energy-saving mode on your Xbox One, first press the Menu button on the controller.

Next, go to Settings, then Power & startup.

Under Power Options, highlight the Power mode, then press the "A" button on the controller to toggle between instant-on and energy-saving.

When you turn off the Xbox One in energy-saving mode, the LED on the power supply will glow orange, instead of white.
