How to mute annoying email threads in Gmail?

Description

You often use the “Reply All” button in group communication. At that time, it may seem convenient, though it may be distressing later one, when different recipients start reverting on it, even when you don’t expect. No matter how many times you delete these messages from your inbox, the next message in the chain will make it all come flashing back.

Solution:

Here is how-to, if you don't want to be a part of the conversation:

Web-based Gmail
Get logged-in with your Gmail account. Select the message, and navigate to the “More” button on the tool-bar offered above the message section. From the drop-down menu select “Mute.”

The email will be removed from your Inbox and further replies to that thread will be hidden. However, it would flash back, when someone from your group addresses you directly.

U-Turn

In case, the boring thread turns interesting later on, you can still read it by going to the “All Mail” section of Gmail.

On Android or iPhone

(a) In the Android Gmail app tap on the email you want hidden then tap the “Menu” button. (This is either a physical button on your phone or an icon of three dots stacked on top of each other.) Find the “Mute” option against the message and send it packing.

(b) On the iPhone, you'll find the Mute option by tapping on the triangle in the tool bar that appears when viewing an email.
