How to enable options to customize Windows Logon / Logoff, Exit and Unlock Sounds in Windows 8?

Keywords: customize windows 8 logon sound, customize windows 8 logoff sound, customize windows 8, exit sound, customize windows 8 unlock sounds, customize windows 8 sounds
Description

Windows 8 doesn’t allow users to change the sound settings pertaining to system events such as Windows startup, shutdown, logon and logoff through Control Panel. However, a registry tweak can help you customize the sound settings easily.

Solution:

Follow the below step-by-step solution to customize Windows Logon, Logoff, Exit and Unlock Sounds in Windows 8:
1. Press "WIN+R" key combination to launch RUN dialog box then type “regedit” and press “Enter.” It opens Registry Editor.

2. Navigate to key: “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels”

3. Check for "WindowsLogon" key. Click on the key and in right-side pane, you'll notice the DWORD ExcludeFromCPL which would be set to 1.

4. Double-click “DWORD” and change its value to “0” or simply delete the “DWORD.”

5. Do the same for other keys as well such as WindowsLogoff, WindowsUnlock and SystemExit.

6. Close “Registry Editor” and open “Sound applet” from the Control Panel. Options to change Windows logon, logoff, exit and unlock sounds back could be seen here.
