How to adjust sound settings on computer and in Skype for Windows XP?

Solution

Find Your PC’s audio settings:



1. Click “Start” and then go to “Control Panel.”






















2. After that, click on “Sounds, Speech and Audio devices.”
















3. Then click on “Sounds and Audio devices” given in the Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices screen.












4. Now, you have reached to Sounds and Audio Devices properties screen



























Changing your PC’s playback options:

1. From the Sound and Audio devices Properties screen, select the “Audio” tab.

2. Going to the “Sound Playback” section, choose the device Skype from the drop-down list and click “Volume.”













3. In the “Volume Control” screen, click “Options” and then go to “Properties.”













4. In Properties screen, make sure that all the boxes given under Show the following volume controls are checked. Now, click “OK.”



















5. Also, in the Volume Control screen Microphone section’s Mute box should be checked as well as other Mute boxes in the Volume Control screen should be unchecked. Then click “Options” to exit.
















Changing your PC’s recording options

1. Select the “Audio” tab from the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties screen.

2. From the Sound recording option, choose the device “Skype” from the drop-down list and click “Volume.”












3. Click “Options” and then go to “Properties” from the Recording Control screen.














4. Properties option displayed. In this, you need to make sure that all the boxes displayed under “Show the following volume controls” are checked. Now, Click “OK.”






















5. Click Options and then go to “Advanced Controls” to display the “Advanced” button under Microphone from the “Recording Control screen”. Then click “Advanced.”





















6. Unchecked the “Microphone Gain Control” box and then click “Close.”

7. Click “Options” to Exit from the Recording Control screen

8. Make a test call to check the microphone of your Skype.

9. In case of any problem, Click Start> All Programs > Accessories> Entertainment > Sound Recorder so as to display the Sound Recorder.
















10. Record your speech through microphone and then play it back

11. If you are not able to hear your voice then re-display the “Sounds and Audio Devices Properties” to correct it.

Checking your audio settings in Skype:


1. Sign in to Skype.

2. Click “Tools and go to Options.





















3. Click “Audio Setting” from the Options screen. Choose the devices that you chose in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties screen from the Microphone and Speakers drop-down lists. Now, Click “Save.”


























4. Test call to check the audio settings in Skype. If you have problems then:

1. Again display the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties screen.

2. Click “Volume” to view the Volume Control screen and make sure that

§ Mute all is unchecked

§ Wave section’s Mute is unchecked

§ Mute is checked in Microphone section

3. Display the “Sound and Audio Devices Properties” screen.

4. Display the “Recording Control” screen by clicking Volume in the Sound Recording section. All the Mute boxes should be unchecked.

5. Now, make another test call.
