free-up-disk-space-with-mac-app-duplicate-zapper

Once installed, the app offers six sliders to narrow your duplicate hunt.

Next, Duplicate Zapper asks you to name locations to include and exclude from your search.

When you have your locations set, click the big green Scan button and Duplicate Zapper will begin its scan. It took about 12 minutes to scan hard drive

When it finishes the scan, the app shows you a list of duplicates it found. Next to each file in the list are two numbers: the number on the right is the total number of copies found, and the number on the left is the number you have selected to delete. You can manually select each file on the list and then check out a preview of each of the copies to verify that they are, indeed, duplicates. If you hover over a file in the right panel, you can view its location, and clicking on the magnifying-glass icon opens Finder.

Going manually through the list, file by file, can be time consuming. Thankfully, Duplicate Zapper offers a number of preset selections. From the drop-down menu at the top labeled Auto Select, you can choose to a method for choosing which files to keep and which to trash. Your choices include keeping the earliest files, keeping the latest files, keep those with the shortest or longest path, or keeping the originals. Below the Auto Select options is a drop-down menu for sorting your list of files.

Mac App Store that Duplicate Zapper "will never scan important system or application files, ensuring your Mac stays safe.

Find out who is using your Wi-Fi on Windows

Here are the steps

Step 1: Install a copy of Who Is On My WiFi (henceforth known as WIOMW).

Step 2: After opening the app, follow the tutorial steps, which will initiate your first (and likely a second) network scan.

You can configure the port range that will be scanned, but if you just want to get started, you don't need to mess with any settings.

You'll see a list of IP addresses appear in the app window after a scan. Each will be identified by MAC address and local IP (the one your router/switch/modem assigned to it).

Step 3: Start identifying the different devices on your network.

If there are a lot of connections (like in the image above), it might be easiest to turn on Wi-Fi one device at a time so you can label them. To label, just click the Description box on the appropriate line, type a name, and then click Save in the top right-hand corner.

If you're savvy with your devices and know where to find their local IP and/or MAC address, you can just use these as references for the labeling process. For example, tapping the currently connected Wi-Fi network on Android will display the local IP.

Step 4: If you find out that someone is indeed leeching your Wi-Fi, you should change your wireless password. On a personal wireless router, just login using the credentials you chose when you set it up. When using a modem/router combo from your ISP, the process may become a bit more involved. Search for the make and model of your modem to find the default login (ISPs don't change these often). If you still cannot log in, contact your ISP to help you reset the password.

Note that some devices which are hardwired into your network, and as such do not have Wi-Fi support, will show up in the list with "NO" in the Connected column.

What tools do you use to monitor your Wi-Fi connection? Share your favorites in the comments.

how-to-customize-am-and-pm-symbols-in-system-tray-in-windows

To change it:

1. Type intl.cpl in Run or Start Menu searchbox and press Enter. It'll open Regional Settings window. You can also open it from Control Panel.

2. Now click on "Customize" or "Customize this format" button. It'll open another window. Go to "Time" tab:

3. Now you can change the text for AM and PM symbols to your desired string. You can also completely remove the AM, PM symbols by removing "tt" from "Time format" text box. Even you can interchange between 12 hour and 24 hour time format by using "h" and "H" respectively.

Click on "Apply" button to apply the changes, then again click on "Apply" button to close the main Regional Settings window. Now the system tray will show your desired text instead of default AM and PM symbols:

4. There is a limitation in this method. You can only type 12 characters in the AM and PM symbol text boxes. What if you want to set longer string? Then you'll need to edit Registry.

5. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. Now go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International

Now look for "s1159" and "s2359" string values. Both represent AM and PM symbols respectively.

6. Double-click on each string value and change its value to your desired text. Now you can use longer string without any problem:

7. Exit registry editor. Your changes will be saved immediately. If you don't see the new text in system tray, then you might need to log off or restart your system.

Create Bootable USB Drive to Install Windows Vista?

1. First format your USB drive in NTFS file system. You can do it by attaching your USB drive to your system and then format it from My Computer window.

2. Now open Command Prompt window from Start menu. Right-click on Command Prompt entry in start menu and select "Run as administrator" option.

3. Now type diskpart in Command Prompt window and press Enter. It'll launch DiskPart program:

4. Now provide following command:

list volume

It'll show a list of all drives in your system. Look for your USB drive entry. As in the below screenshot, the USB drive is "G" which you can determine from its "Type" entry.

Now you have to select the USB drive volume by providing select volume no. command. Since in our case volume no. of USB drive is "Volume 4", the command would be:

select volume 4

Now we have to make this drive active. So provide active command:
active

Now exit from DiskPart using exit command.

5. Now we need to create Boot sector on USB drive. We'll use "bootsect.exe" utility for this task. You can find this utility in Windows Vista setup disk. It'll be present in "Boot" directory.

Now provide following command in Command Prompt:

bootsect /nt60 G:

Here G is drive letter of USB drive. Replace it with the correct drive letter if your system has some other letter for USB drive.

6. At last, copy all files/folders from Vista Setup DVD to your USB drive and you have done.

Now you can boot using your USB drive and can install Windows Vista in any system.
