You Got Hacked! What Now?

Description

Hacking is the most dangerous thing. If you have been hacked then don’t worry you can recover. This tutorial can help you a lot in this regard.

Solution:

Find your mistake

It is very obvious that a cyber-criminal mastermind targeted you by using your personal information. May be a valid website which has been injected by malware infested your system with a data-stealing Trojan. Using same password for several accounts is a very common mistake which leads you towards the risk of hacking.

Reset the password

There are many websites which has the facility to reset the forgotten password by sending a special link to your email account of record. In case, your email is compromised then you need to change the password immediately. If your hacker has already locked you out by changing the account password then take help from your email provider. For this, you should prove that you are the real owner of the account.

Change Your Passwords

After being hacked, change the password for all your password-secure sites. Firstly, start with financial and other important sites and then move ahead. Please don’t create same new passwords. Use the password manager utility like LastPass, and allow it to generate secure passwords like 3F&bqV&tbMMn or F*a6@Wv5jJF%.

Report the Event

Reporting the hacking event as soon as possible is another important task. Websites like Facebook have the facility to report about your hacking at www.facebook.com/hacked. If the site doesn’t have any official form to report then drop a note to tech support or customer service.

Restart PC

It is a good idea to restart or reformat a PC so as to recover from this situation. Before doing this, check that you have latest updates for your OS and for all installed browsers, as well as for essential browser add-ons like Flash and Adobe Reader. Moreover, check that your antivirus or security suite is up to date. Scan your computer using one or more of the available free antivirus tools.

Be Careful

After recovering from the situation, be careful in future. Always use password manager and never use same passwords for all accounts. Keep your antivirus, OS as well as all installed browsers up to date. Further, keep your eyes open for suspicious behavior on your online accounts.
