Slide to Shutdown” Shortcut to Windows 8.1 Start Screen


Are you looking for the hidden “Slide to shutdown” trick in Windows 8.1? Then this tutorial can help you. Here is the easy to use method to create a shortcut of “Slide to Shutdown” feature.


Follow the simple steps:

1. To begin with the process, open “Windows Explorer or “This PC window” and go to the following folder:


2. You can see the executable file named “SlideToShutDown.exe.”

3. Right-click on this file and select "Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut)" option.

4. You can see a new shortcut on desktop named as "SlideToShutDown.exe - Shortcut". You have to rename it to “Shutdown” or any desired name.

5. Right-click on shortcut and choose “Properties”.

6. Click “Change Icon” button on Shortcut tab and change its icon to the correct Shutdown icon. You can set icon as per your choice.

7. From the desktop, cut this shortcut and paste it into the following folder:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\

Further, type the path in RUN dialog box to open the above mentioned folder and press “Enter.”

8. Go to “Start” screen and press “Windows+S" keys together so as to launch Search pane. Enter “Shut down” term in search box.

9. You can see the “Shut Down” shortcut in results. By right-clicking on the entry, choose “Pin to Start” option.

10. That’s all. You can see the “Shut Down” button on the Start screen.
