Five steps to ultimate Firefox security

Description

For security of Firefox, you need to enable security features manually. Here are five steps to lock down Firefox.

Solution:

Enable a master password

Use the master password feature of Firefox to protect the saved passwords list. After enabling it, you must enter a master password first to use a saved password. Also, you need to enter a master password always before viewing saved passwords via Options menu. To enable the master password feature, open the “Firefox” menu, select “Options”, select the “Security” tab, and then check the “Use a master password” option.

Use a strong password for syncing

With a syncing feature, Firefox synchronize your bookmarks, passwords, and other browser data to Firefox browsers running on other computers and devices. For additional security, Firefox allows you to log in with your Firefox Sync password. After that, you must enter a random passcode from the new device into one you have already set up. Thus, you don’t need to worry about Firefox syncing if you are using strong password.

Verify that security options are enabled

Firefox have some basic security and privacy settings. Therefore, you need to enable those which are disabled. Just start by opening Firefox menu and select “Options.” Then choose “Security” tab. Make sure that the first option “Warn me when sites try to install add-ons” is enabled. After that, check the next two options “Block reported attack sites” and “Block reported web forgeries.” In “Privacy” tab, select the first option “Tell websites I do not want to be tracked.” In “Content” tab, enable the first option “Block pop-up windows.” Finally, select the “Advanced” tab, select the “Update” subtab, and ensure that “Automatically install updates” is selected.

Use add-ons for more protection

Install these security add-ons for extra protection:

· NoScript

· Adblock Plus

· Web of Trust (WOT)

· HTTPS Finder

· Xpnd.it! short URL expander
